BASIC SMALL BOAT: ASA 110 (Prerequisite: None)
Location: Raleigh-Durham Poplar Point on Jordan Lake
General Description: Able to sail a centerboard sailboat (up to 20 ft in length) in light to moderate
winds and sea conditions in familiar waters without supervision. A preparatory Standard with
no auxiliary power or navigation skills required.

BASIC KEEL BOAT: ASA 101 (Suggested Prerequisite: ASA 110)
Location: New Bern Grand Marina
General Description: Able to sail a fixed keel sailboat (up to 30 feet in length)
with outboard auxiliary power and tiller steering in light to moderate winds and sea conditions
(in protected coastal water) without supervision. A preparatory Standard with no navigation
skills required.

SMALL BOAT & KEEL BOAT: Learn to Sail Vacation Package w/ Live Aboard Option
Location: New Bern Grand Marina

General Description: ASA 110 and ASA 101 leading to certification in Basic Small Boat and Basic Keel Boat. This package includes two days of instruction on our 19 ft Flying Scot and three days of instruction on our 23ft Ericson. A live aboard option on our 28ft Ericson is available.

COASTAL CRUISING w/ Bare Boat Charter: ASA 103 & 104 (Preprequisite: ASA 101)
Location: New Bern Grand Marina
General Description ASA 103: Able to cruise safely in local and regional waters as both
skipper and crew on an auxiliary powered sailboat over 30 feet in length, in moderate winds
and sea conditions.
General Description ASA 104: An advanced cruising “Standard” for individuals with
cruising experience. The individual will be able act as skipper or crew of a boat over 30 feet in
length sailing by day in coastal waters. The Standard includes knowledge of boat systems and
maintenance procedures.
Tuition: $1295.00

COASTAL NAVIGATION: ASA 105 (Prerequisite: None)
General Description ASA 105: Able to demonstrate the navigational theory required to safely
navigate a sailing vessel in coastal or inland waters. No Sailing skill or sailing knowledge is required.
Powerboaters may also enroll in this course.
